Who is Betsy Leighton?

What is MCAS?
Mast Cell Activation Syndrome (MCAS) is a chronic condition that affects all organ systems. It can cause severe, disabling symptoms every day, including potentially fatal anaphylaxis.
The common triggers for MCAS are infections, toxic exposures including mold exposure and EMFs, trauma, concussions, and stress.
MCAS often occurs with other chronic conditions like Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (EDS) and Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS). Managing MCAS is challenging because many healthcare providers are unaware of it, and diagnostic tests can be unreliable. Treatments include antihistamines and mast cell stabilizers in the form of medications and supplements, along with avoiding triggers. Check out this post on managing MCAS.
What is far infrared heat therapy?
Far infrared heat therapy uses crystals, including amethyst, jade, and tourmaline, which, when heated, create far infrared heat that penetrates 3-8 inches into the body. This far-infrared heat can improve blood flow and microcirculation when applied. It can also help temporarily relieve minor muscle, joint pain, and stiffness. This relief of joint pain has been associated with helping arthritis, muscle spasms, minor strains, and improved relaxation.
Far Infrared light is part of the electromagnetic spectrum. It heats your tissues directly, and its wavelengths can penetrate deep into your tissues. This is beneficial for your blood vessels, increasing blood flow and circulation, and improving the bodily functions of the surrounding tissues. Far-infrared light is also helpful for reducing pain, aiding detoxification, and reducing inflammation.
What is PEMF?
PEMF stands for Pulsed Electromagnetic Field therapy. It’s a noninvasive treatment that uses low-frequency electromagnetic waves to stimulate the body’s cells and tissues. The idea is that these gentle pulses can help improve cellular energy (ATP production), enhance circulation, reduce inflammation, and support healing in muscles, bones, and nerves. PEMF is used both in clinical settings and at home—for example, in devices meant to aid recovery from injury, relieve pain, or improve sleep and overall wellness. While research supports some benefits (especially for bone healing and pain reduction), results can vary, and the strength, frequency, and duration of exposure all matter for effectiveness.
Earthing
Earthing, or direct skin contact with Earth, provides your body with vital negative charge (electrons). This charge is crucial for cellular, blood, and lymphatic health. Without it, bodily function is compromised. By touching the Earth, you absorb and distribute these essential electrons.
You can “earth” by touching natural surfaces like grass, sand, dirt, or water, or even grounded concrete. Avoid asphalt, artificial decking, or dead wood, which lack the water needed for electron conduction. Touching a living tree also allows electrons to flow into your body.
I like to garden barefoot during the summer months to take advantage of Earthing. Spending time outdoors with bare skin touching the earth quickly restores a healthy negative charge and balances the nervous system. In the colder months, I use a PEMF mini from Bon Charge beneath my feet at my desk while working from home for Earthing, grounding, and beneficial frequency.
Earthing enhances blood health by restoring the negative charge (zeta potential) of red blood cells. This charge allows healthy red blood cells, which are naturally disc-shaped, to repel each other and flow freely, much like magnets. Without this charge, red blood cells tend to clump together, which promotes blood flow, nutrient and oxygen delivery, and waste removal. Modern indoor living depletes this charge, leading to cell clumping. Earthing for five minutes can quickly restore this healthy charge, transforming dysfunctional, clumped blood cells into independent units, improving oxygen and nutrient delivery, and increasing blood flow.
In addition, Earth’s electrons provide a negative charge, acting as antioxidants to neutralize inflammatory molecules. Earthing also reduces inflammation and static electricity, connecting us to the Schumann resonance. Your body is constantly exposed to non-native frequencies from electronic devices. Like grounding an antenna, you need to regularly “earth” yourself to discharge static. This allows you to receive crucial frequencies from nature and lets our heart’s magnetic field function healthily. Consistent earthing offers healing benefits, including maintaining cellular charge, improving blood flow, calming inflammation, balancing brainwaves, and promoting overall health. Short, frequent sessions are more effective than long, infrequent ones. Even brief but regular earthing provides numerous health benefits.
Intention
Sacred Self-Healing relies on intention and frequency. Intention directs frequency to bring about healing. The universal formula for healing is:
Intention + Frequency = Healing.
In this expression, “frequency” refers to the specific healing modality being applied. Setting an intention is particularly beneficial when utilizing self-healing methods such as frequency and forgiveness. This post covers more information on the power of intention.
Beneficial Frequency
Beneficial frequency refers to natural vibrations that synchronize biological and Earth systems, to support overall harmony. For instance, visible red and blue light from the sun are beneficial frequencies because they regulate circadian rhythms. Likewise, Earth’s Schumann resonance is a naturally occurring frequency that aligns internal and external rhythms for health. This post discusses beneficial frequency in more depth.
Forgiveness
Forgiveness, like love, is seen as a high-frequency energetic state connected to compassion and gratitude. In contrast, emotions such as resentment and anger are thought to have lower frequencies, constricting rather than elevating well-being. Forgiveness helps elevate energy, promote emotional healing, and support physiological balance. Science hasn’t measured the frequency of forgiveness, but studies show that forgiveness can improve heart and brain patterns and help the body work more smoothly. Forgiveness brings balance, healing, and peace—both emotionally and physically. This post delves deeper into forgiveness.
My new favorite PEMF mat
I’ve tried several PEMF mats, and the one I like best for Earthing, grounding, and beneficial frequencies is the PEMF mini from Bon Charge. The Infrared PEMF Mat Mini. I like to use it under my feet each morning while I work at my desk to receive both beneficial frequencies and infrared light.

The bucket theory
The bucket theory simplifies understanding symptom reactions with MCAS. Imagine your body as an empty bucket you don’t want to overflow. Reactions to various stimuli fill the histamine bucket at different rates, forming the total histamine level (how full your bucket is). More histamine means more symptoms. By managing triggers, reducing exposures, and taking medications and supplements, you can control your bucket’s level.
